Empty Altars is an ongoing series of sculptures inspired by portable altars used by Spanish colonizers for evangelizing purposes in South America and the Caribbean. The handmade quality of each one-of-a-kind piece disrupts the perfection expected from the sacred geometry of typical altar spaces. Although each piece attempts for symmetry and has one focal point wherein which an object of worship would be placed, each altar is void of any worshipable icons.
